Scheduling of all events is managed by the Sailing Sub-committee and published within the programme which is available online and within the handbook. The Programme is intended to:
list every event at the lake including external groups that use the lake e.g., Sea Cadets, U3A, Water Voles etc.,
only include events that are resourced.
A Community Spaces Coordinator (email: communityspaces@cmyc.co.uk) allocates dates in response to small school groups, local community groups and local residential care homes to make use of the grounds and SSSI area such that they have a base with a car park and toilet. The initial aim is to invite local residential care homes equipped with their own minibus the opportunity to enjoy a change of view, some outside space and some fresh air. There will be no on-water activities for those visiting. Those attending the visitors would be given access to the galley and toilets by a CMYC Member that remains on site to unlock and lock up afterwards.
⚠️ A condition will be that the visitors will be looked after by Care Home Staff at all times, and the Care Home will sign the Visitors book indicating the number of residents in their care at the lake (individual resident names will not be required).
This is now on our website (25 March 2025): https://www.cmyc.co.uk/home/community-spaces.htm
Insurance: Premises Hire Condition Precedent (added October 2024) - It is hereby noted that the club hire the premises to club members and non-member or use for activity & functions. It is a Condition Precedent to liability that a minimum of one responsible club official is in attendance at all times during the event and ensures that full checks are made of the premises prior to securing the building at the end of the day.
While this may indirectly promote the Club, the value is in providing mental health and wellbeing as part of our Community strategy.
It is intended to keep a note of potential speakers and event ideas here:
The Green Blue project have a number of ideas including a box of 'experiments' that can be sent out to enable the Club to demonstrate environmental hazards in an engaging hands-on way.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race can offer (for free) one of our Alumni (former crew) to talk about their experiences at one of your future social events. Our talks usually last around 45 minutes to an hour (with 15 – 30 mins Q&A), but we can tailor them according to your event.
The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other. What makes it unique is that the crew on board the eleven 70ft ocean racing yachts are made up of people from all walks of life, aged from 18 up to 75. The 11-month circumnavigation is divided into eight legs and including six ocean crossings. You can hear from someone who has been there, stared Mother Nature in the eye and taken all she can muster. Those that attend our events are usually inspired, or scared by what they see, but they certainly aren’t bored!
To give you a flavour of some of the videos that will be shown as part of the event, here is a 1min 30second clip from the Roaring Forties (available on YouTube).
Please do let me know if this might be of interest (with some suggested dates over the next few months), and we’d be happy to arrange something for you.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to call me on my mobile number below.
Best wishes, Chris Harris
